Request a Portrait

Hello! Thank you for visiting Artsypups by Gina!

Drawing realistic animal portraits is challenging. But it is oh so much fun! Feel free to browse and see what I have created for others like you, who love pets as much as I do. Please check back often to see what recent projects have been added!

Subject matter

Whether you would like to give a portrait as a gift or have a keepsake of your beloved pet, every portrait is a labor of love. Although I mainly draw dogs and cats, wildlife, ponies and parrots are a few other possibilities. Please fill out the contact form to inquire about drawing your special animal friend.

This particular drawing is pastel on a different textured paper that gives it an painted look.

Timeframe

Drawing a portrait from start to finish can take anywhere from ten days to three weeks, depending on difficulty. This doesn’t include cutting the mat to your specifications. Please ask about turn around time in your request as it could take longer if you add local delivery or shipping time. A small portrait without a background can take roughly 12-15 hrs. A large one with a detailed background or fur texture can take well over 30 hours! I promise it will be worth the wait!

Sizes

We offer two portrait sizes at this time. Image size is 9×7.5 and 12.5×9.5 (before matting). Paper is a premium quality pastel paper made in France in assorted neutral colors and is difficult to obtain. It offers the best results and holds many layers of rich color. In addition there is no fixative on the drawings as that will change the color intensity and has no guarantee. Handling and framing suggestions will be included with each portrait.

*Frames are not included.

A custom-cut mat is included, in black, brown, gray or cream, and cut to the frame size you specify. 8.5×11, 9×12, 11×14, 12×16 are most common. You choose what size frame* you want to use.

Featured portraits

I practice my drawing skills on all sorts of pet and wildlife animals, so there are often various kinds of portraits for sale. Most are matted but unframed animal portraits of assorted wildlife or miscellaneous pets. Pricing varies with size and difficulty. Some are small colored pencil studies, while others are large color pastel projects. Sometimes I donate pet portraits to fundraisers to help local shelters, too!

Shelters may inquire about donations by filling out the contact form.
